Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver has been known to be one of the stingiest owners in the NBA. The latest story from Goran Dragic further reinforces that.
Goran Dragic has always been one of those guys right at the cusp of All-Star contention. He made it once with the Miami Heat back in 2018 but nearly made it four years earlier with the Phoenix Suns. He eventually fell short, but revealed in a recent interview on popular Slovenian podcast Dvokorak that Sarver was ecstatic that his player missed out on the accolade rather than feel disappointed:

“He came to the gym and said that he is happy…. Actually happy,” Dragic said of an interaction with Sarver about missing the 2014 All-Star team. “So I asked him why are you so happy? He told me that it's because he doesn't have to pay me 1 million dollar bonus. And I was like, what kind of owner doesn't want his own player to make the All-Star team. After that I said to myself .. I really don't see myself being in this place any longer.”
Dragic had a season to remember back in 2013-14, averaging 20.3 points and 5.9 assists. He formed a lethal backcourt pairing with Eric Bledsoe that had the Suns right at the cusp of playoff contention despite coming into the season being seen as mostly a bottom feeder. They won 48 games that year but finished 9th in what was a crowded Western Conference.
Robert Sarver has been known for stories like this throughout the years. But with the recent success of the Suns, he's apparently willing to shell out quite a bit more after matching a $133 million offer sheet for Deandre Ayton.
