The Phoenix Suns have met with Jason Kidd and Vinny Del Negro to discuss their vacant head coaching position, according to Suns beat writer Scott Bordow of AZCentral.com.

Both Kidd and Del Negro have played for the Suns in the past and have experience in the NBA as head coaches. Del Negro coached the Chicago Bulls from 2008-10 and the L.A. Clippers from 2010-13, while Kidd was the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets from 2013-14 and most recently the Milwaukee Bucks from 2014-18 before he was fired mid-season.

The Suns, who will have a very high pick in the upcoming 2018 NBA Draft, have a head coaching position open after Earl Watson was fired following a 0-3 start to the 2017-18 season. Jay Triano, who took over as the Suns' interim head coach following the firing of Watson, compiled just a dismal 21-58 record in Phoenix.

Are these two options a bit of a reach for the Suns? Although both Kidd and Del Negro have connections to Phoenix, they have not had much success as head coaches in the past.

Recently, the Suns were unable to get a deal done with Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer and have also been connected to former Orlando Magic head coach Frank Vogel, current Utah Jazz assistant coach Igor Kokoskov, former Memphis Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale, and other options.
