With the recent news of Isaiah Canaan's release from the Phoenix Suns, there has been some speculation that perhaps something bigger is on tap for the Suns. However, that is not the case as reported by John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7.
The Suns may be able to focus more attention on rookie Elie Okobo after using a second-round pick on him in the 2018 NBA Draft. In addition to Okobo, the obvious choice at point guard is Devin Booker who can score at will and facilitate the offense with his outstanding talents.
Phoenix can also choose to focus on giving players like Mikal Bridges and Josh Jackson increased minutes and play some bigger ball when necessary. The fact remains Canaan is indeed a talented player and will more than likely get picked up elsewhere, but his role with the Suns has come to an end for one reason or another.
Canaan was taking up a good deal of minutes as well and not doing a whole lot with them in recent games.
Devin Booker has been lobbying for the Suns to put together a super team. The odds of that happening right now are slim considering how young the current roster is and how much developing that needs to occur for that to happen at any point. Phoenix has not exactly been a popular destination since the time of Steve Nash when they made numerous visits to the playoffs.
Whatever the reasoning for Canaan's release, the Suns are in need of figuring things out quickly. If a trade is the answer, then Phoenix will need to explore reasonable options.
