Despite creating another impressive NFL campaign, the Kansas City Chiefs and superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes were denied back-to-back Super Bowl titles on Sunday evening. Not only was the torch passed to the new Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium, but the surging NFC South franchise took it with some force — which may somehow still be an understatement.

With the Buccaneers defeating the Chiefs by the score of 31-9 as Tampa Bay dominated Super Bowl LV from nearly start to finish, Patrick Mahomes did make some history in the process. Unfortunately for Mahomes and the Chiefs, though, Kansas City definitely wouldn't mind forgetting this tiny little piece of history.

Sunday evening's loss down in Tampa Bay marked the first time that Patrick Mahomes has suffered a loss by two possessions as a NFL signal caller. Prior to Super Bowl LV, Mahomes' largest loss atop the highest level came against the rival Las Vegas Raiders earlier this season as the Chiefs were defeated by eight points.

Adding to the forgettable outing for the Chiefs, Kansas City had never been held to single digits under the direction of Patrick Mahomes either.

Obviously, the timing of an outlier of a performance came at the absolute worst time possible for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

It is worth noting that the Chiefs were without both of the team's starting offensive tackles on Sunday evening against the Buccaneers. Patrick Mahomes barely had a clean pocket to throw from against the victorious Buccaneers as this no doubt played a major factor in the eventual outcome of Super Bowl LV.

There is a saying in life — not just sports — which says, “You don't know what you have until it's gone.” The fact that this amazing sports streak, unthinkable in the modern NFL, finally came to an end makes it even more important to appreciate it and cherish it for the monumental feat it is. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs just wish this streak could have been broken in Week 1 of next season, not the Super Bowl.
