Yuki Kawamura is out here at the Bulls facility this morning. Got some work in with a trainer in the weight room, now doing a little ball handling on the court while talking with head athletic trainer Todd Campbell.

Coby White came out of Saturday’s return to practice with tightness in his strained right calf. He will be dialed back from running or cutting for the next two weeks. Can still lift weights and do some other gym work, but not much more than that.

Donovan said White won’t be running or cutting in short term. Will still be doing weight work and rehab.

The Bulls say Coby White will miss at least the first two weeks of the regular season as he recovers from a calf strain.

One consistent thing regarding Coby White: Organization and White are both in lockstep on White taking big picture view for season. They want him fully healthy for long haul, as does he to impact winning in contract year.

Previously, Bulls said they expected White to be ready for opener.

Billy Donovan has obviously spoken to Yuki Kawamura and said his spirits are good. Acknowledged the impact he made on teammates and organization and wished him well. Bulls PR confirms Kawamura will stay in Chicago for treatment.

Jalen Smith on loss of Collins: “Zach is a tremendous player. He’s one of our pillars of physicality. We’ll miss him. I gotta step up.”

Coby White said his calf felt fine during controlled contact. Acknowledged he has work to get conditioning and rhythm up to speed but encouraged by today. “We’ll see. It’s in the works,” White said when asked if he plans to play in Wednesday opener.

Billy Donovan said Zach Collins experienced swelling postgame Thursday, which is why he underwent follow-up testing that revealed small fracture. Collins suffered injury while bracing his fall after taking charge from Julius Randle.

Billy Donovan said Coby White “looked good” and went through most of contact Saturday. Plan is to increase contact Monday after off day Sunday.

Some positive health news for Bulls: Coby White is practicing today. Coach Billy Donovan said last week team will use time between preseason finale and regular-season opener to put him through contact and ramp him up. Assuming no setbacks, White is expected to play vs. Pistons.

This hurts the Bulls quite a bit, he is pretty obviously better than Vuc when Vuc isn’t shooting 40% from three (which will never happen again). Felt like the best big on the team entering the season. I want some Pat-Matas-Noa lineups now, but I won’t hold my breath.

Blow for the Bulls, who at least have Jalen Smith in backup role. I asked Collins how his wrist was postgame and he said it was fine. Tough break.

Medical Update: F/C Zach Collins underwent successful surgery yesterday to repair a non-displaced fracture in his left wrist. He will be reevaluated in four weeks.
