The Houston Texans quarterback depth suffered a blow with A.J McCarron suffering a thumb injury that could hold him out of the entire preseason. According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, McCarron suffered the injury during Tuesday's practice against the Green Bay Packers.

McCarron is expected to be the backup quarterback for Deshaun Watson this season for the Texans and right now it doesn't appear that job is in jeopardy. If the thumb injury would hold him out into the regular season, that might change the team's plans.

Preseason injuries have seemed to be a problem for McCarron in the past too. Last season, McCarron suffered a shoulder injury during the second preseason game while he was a member of the Buffalo Bills. The injury was part of the reason that he wasn't named the starting quarterback of the team.

Focusing back to the preseason for the Texans this could really hurt the team's plans, especially for Thursday's game against the Green Bay Packers. Watson won't be playing much in this game so the plan was to have McCarron and Joe Webb get most of the reps.

With McCarron out with injury, it will be Webb who will probably end up getting all of the reps and could force the team to run a ball a lot so they don't get him injured.

Even if the team does sign someone between now and when the game kicks off, it would be hard to imagine that they would know enough of the playbook to be much help in the game.
