After parting ways with Brock Osweiler in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, the Houston Texans moved on with Tom Savage expected to be the starter this season and rookie Deshaun Watson being groomed as the future of the franchise.

With high hopes of Watson, all eyes have been on the rookie quarterback during the NFL preseason. Watson helped lead the Texans over the New England Patriots this weekend, but his performance was anything but flawless. Watson gave his thoughts on his performance against New England, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

“I did a decent job,” Watson said. “I did what I needed to do to try to move the ball to help the team out. There's always things I can get better at. I'm going to watch the film and I'm going to continue to work on that.”

The Clemson product completed only three passes in his 10 attempts against the Patriots. Watson finished with 102 passing yards to go along with a rushing touchdown.

Despite making an impact in this game with his feet, Watson fell short in the passing category. The rookie's debut against the Carolina Panthers was impressive as he racked up 203 total yards with a touchdown through the air, but there needs to be more polish on his passing ability before he's handed the keys the franchise.

At this point, it is Savage's team to run at the start of the regular season draws near. Watson is the future, but Savage appears to be the present as the rookie needs more time to sharpens his skills.
