Jadevon Clowney and the Houston Texans have both stated hope to get a long-term deal done. Time is running short now as the two sides only have about a month left if they want to continue to follow team policy.

General manager Brian Gaine has said he will continue to follow the team rule that they don't negotiate long-term contracts during the season. Gaine also seemed to show some hope that a deal will get done in his comments to the Houston Chronicle.

“Yes, JD’s No. 1 focus was to get healthy and our No. 1 focus was to get him healthy,” Gaine said, via the Houston Chronicle. “He is now. We’re hoping that will produce dividends for us during training camp because he is going to be available to us to be out there and be with his teammates. These things take time. It’s a work in progress. It’s amicable. They’re developing. It just takes a little time with contracts as such.”

Clowney is scheduled to make $12.3 million this year after the Texans picked up the fifth-year option on his contract.

Clowney underwent arthroscopic knee surgery during the NFL offseason and missed all of the training. He is fully healthy and ready for training camp now and is expecting a big year.

“I'm ready, man,” Clowney said via the Houston Chronicle. “I'm very excited. I'm looking forward to the season… I'm great, I'm good. See you guys at camp.”

This is a story that should be resolved one way or another in the next month.
