The Houston Texans surprisingly announced on Thursday that they had fired David Culley. After the announcement, the Texans released a statement on Twitter, with general manager Nick Caserio speaking out on the firing of Culley. Caserio notably said there were “philosophical differences” that led to Culley being fired. Via Texans reporter Aaron Wilson, Caserio touched on the philosophical differences on Friday.

Texans general manager Nick Caserio felt that the team did some good things under David Culley but overall, they needed to be better. Caserio then elaborated a bit more on what led to Culley being fired.

While Caserio and the Texans certainly weren't thrilled with the performance of the team, it sounds like they were more displeased with Culley's vision for the future- and perhaps on personnel matters- than they were on his leadership skills.

Of course, the irony here is that some of the blame needs to go to Caserio, who is responsible for putting the roster together that underachieved under Culley. Caserio is right, the Texans need to get better but it starts with putting together a more talented group of players than the ones they have right now.

Nick Caserio and the Texans will try to do just that, only, with a new head coach in the building.
