Not a soul on this planet believes the Houston Texans quarterback job even remotely belongs to Tom Savage. As soon as Deshaun Watson is healthy to return, the gig is his.

Even Tom Savage knows this. It is why he has admitted to using his current platform to audition for other quarterback jobs across the National Football League.

“I think all four years were an audition, even preseason,” Savage said, via the Houston Chronicle. “That’s just the way it is. It’s an audition for other teams and audition again for Houston. I have to take advantage of it, but, most importantly, I want to win. That’s the most important thing to me.”

Can we make jokes about how awful his audition has been going?

While last Sunday was a good performance (until a late interception) by Savage, his career has been objectively not good.

Savage has a career competition percentage under 58, has thrown more interceptions (7) than touchdowns (5), and has also fumbled the football on nine different occasions. Furthermore, having entered the NFL in 2015, it took until 2017 for him to throw for his first touchdown pass.

Listen, this isn't about raining on the guy's parade. That being said, let's just hope his expectations are realistic. He's not auditioning for a starting quarterback job. He's trying like heck to obtain one as a backup.
