Chaos erupted before the college football season has even started when it was whispered about that the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners may try and bolt from the Big 12 for the SEC.
The reports were meant with a brick wall of anger from many sides and with more even wondering what it would mean for the long term structure of the Big 12 if Texas and Oklahoma were gone.
B1G commissioner Kevin Warren spoke at B1G Media Day on Thursday and was asked about what's going on with Texas and Oklahoma and the ongoing situation. Via Adam Rittenberg of ESPN, here's what Warren had to say.
“These are the kind of issues we all will be dealing with this year and for many years. That’s the world that we live in right now. From where we sit, we’re always constantly evaluating what’s in the best interests of the conference. It will be interesting to see that story, how that evolves and where it lands.”
It's interesting to see Warren phrase it as an “issue” while also staying fairly neutral with his stance on what's occurring in the Big 12.
Shakeups like this in college football and basketball have become more and more of the norm in recent years. Teams like Missouri, West Virginia, Maryland, Rutgers and plenty of others have conference hopped in the last decade or so. None however, hold the weight that Texas and Oklahoma do for the Big 12 conference.
Expect more commissioners to speak on this dilemma as it continues to stick around the landscape of college football.
