Without a doubt, any collector would grab a gem-mint slab of Michael Jordan's rookie, if given the chance. His Airness' impact, not only on the game of basketball itself but on the hobby as well, is one that transcends anything else in the market. But with the different grading choices in the hobby, there seems to be a level of variation that's causing some level of confusion among collectors.

In a post on Instagram by Cardporn, three graded Michael Jordan rookie cards are presented to have sold at differing prices during a recent auction by PWCC. The kicker here is that each of these cards has been graded by three different companies – PSA, BGS, and SGC.

As expected, the most expensive of the three is the one graded by PSA with a price of $240,000. Coming right at second is the Michael Jordan rookie card that received a grade of 10 from SGC that went for 1$192,00 with the BGS 9.5 slab coming in at third place with $48,000,

With the prices these Jordan slabs went for, one has to wonder why there's a discrepancy in value? The difference, of course, is more notable between the PSA and SGC graded cards and the one with the BGS label. If things are taken at face value, it seems the market is giving more importance to a gem-mint grade of 10, rather than a 9.5 from Beckett.

As it has been in the market since the recent boom of sports cards, more people have regarded PSA as the gold standard when it comes to grading. What's surprising is that SGC is looking to be the next in line, replacing BGS in the process.

In any case, these three graded Michael Jordan cards are still awesome and breathtaking, no matter what the slab or grade is.
