Chris Paul has three years left on his monster contract, which is why the Oklahoma City Thunder won't have any luck finding a trade partner for him.
Paul is making $38,506,482 this season, $41,358,814 in 2020-21 and has a player option worth $44,211,146 for the 2021-22 season. Paul and the Thunder likely won’t agree to a buyout, as he would have to give up a lot of money.
According to one NBA executive who spoke to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, no one in the league wants Paul and his whopping contract:
“No one wants CP3. Adams' contract is terrible,” the first executive said. “Gallo is the only one that can bring something back.”
The Miami Heat “were totally unreasonable” when discussing Paul in trade talks before the season, according to a player agent. Now at 19-7, Miami might be looking for smaller moves to improve.
Paul is averaging 15.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists for the Thunder this season. He's shooting 45.4 percent from the field, 35.2 percent from beyond the arc and 88.9 percent from the free-throw line.
The Thunder are in the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with a record of 11-14. All signs point toward Paul staying in OKC this season since his contract is just too big for a player who is no longer a superstar.
