Anthony Edwards put on a show against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night, as he notched a career-high 34 points to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 114-112 victory. With such a memorable performance, the rookie caught the eyes of both Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.

Lillard matched Edward's energy with 38 points of his own, and that level of competition multiplied the respect. Meanwhile, although McCollum is still out with a nagging foot injury, he still wanted to show love to the rook.

There have been flashes of Anthony Edwards's talent throughout the season, but the struggling Timberwolves rarely garner the attention necessary to display it to a national audience. Everyone remembers the dunk over Yuta Watanabe, but Edwards has displayed he's more than just a freak of nature. The 202o No. 1 overall draft selection is averaging 23.9 points per game in his last seven outings and appears to be reaching his stride through this first year.

Edwards displayed his entire bag of tricks against the Blazers. A couple of pull-up three-pointers over Carmelo Anthony, a monster dunk on Robert Covington, and some incredible finishing throughout. While Edwards has flexed this level of talent before, it hasn't always translated to wins. Thanks to some huge Ricky Rubio free throws down the stretch, this one did for the Timberwolves.

On a night where Karl Anthony-Towns could never find the rhythm of the game–he finished with just 13 points on nine shots–the Timberwolves rookie's impressive outing was more than just a performance, it was absolutely necessary.
