After the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Orlando Magic last Friday at home, Timberwolves big man Gorgui Dieng was visibly angry in the postgame locker room and had to be calmed down by point guard Derrick Rose, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Gorgui Dieng played 16 minutes against the Magic and finished with four points and 11 rebounds. It is believed that Dieng has been frustrated all season with his role on the team and the lack of minutes he got under Tom Thibodeau, who was fired on Sunday.

“He (Tom Thibodeau) also frustrated some players with a lack of communication and a preference to play his starters heavy minutes, and the pot was showing signs of boiling over. After a win over Orlando on Friday night, backup center Gorgui Dieng was openly seething in the locker room and had to be calmed down by Derrick Rose. Tyus Jones, Anthony Tolliver and Jeff Teague are among others who have had their concerns.”

Dieng is only averaging 5.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season in 13.7 minutes of game action. We'll see if his minutes increase now that Ryan Saunders is the new coach of the Timberwolves.

Rose and Taj Gibson are the veteran leaders of this young Timberwolves team. Both players know playing for Thibodeau can be tough. Dieng probably won't admit it, but he's got to be excited to see if Saunders is going to use him differently than Thibs did.
