The Minnesota Timberwolves are not wasting time in the offseason as the exhaustive search to fill the key vacancy in the team's front office continues.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Wolves have identified retired Detroit Pistons legend and current ESPN analyst Chauncey Billups as a potential candidate for the main front-office job:

Billups has been an analyst for ESPN for some time now, and this, coupled with his 17 years of basketball experience, might be the main factors that put him in a pole position for the opening. However, the other candidates on the list have far more experience than Billups in terms of front-office work, so the former NBA champion will need to impress team officials in his interview.

Billups finished his career as a five-time All-Star who played eight seasons as a member of the Pistons. He is perhaps most known for leading Detroit to the championship in the 2003-04 season, upsetting the Los Angeles Lakers superteam that had Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Karl Malone, and Gary Payton.

The Timberwolves sacked Tom Thibodeau, who doubled as the team's president of basketball operations and head coach, in the middle of this season. Ryan Saunders was appointed as his replacement as the team's head coach, but the presidency has been left vacant since Thibs' departure.

Minnesota obviously want to fill the void as soon as possible in order for them to start working on its offseason plans. It was a disappointing season for the Timberwolves, so they will surely want to bounce back in the 2019-20 campaign.
