Sixth-year small forward Andrew Wiggins — who is having a breakout, starry season so far — is away from the Minnesota Timberwolves and will miss their Friday matchup with the visiting Washington Wizards for personal reasons.

Per Chris Hine of the Minneapolis Star Tribune on Twitter:

“One thing I will say is family is family and we are family. Andrew has the time that he needs to deal with any personal matters, as everybody within the organization does.”

Wiggins is off to a fast start, eschewing doubt in his longevity for the Timberwolves and sense in never reaching number one overall kind of potential. The Canadian wing is averaging 25.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game in 11 appearances, shooting 47.8% from the floor, 36.1% from 3-point range, and 73.6% from the free throw line.

It appears as Wiggins has worked on his shot profile in the offseason, eliminating many mid-range field-goal attempts that littered his game in the past and instead modernized his game to the three-ball and layup revolution of the 2010's.

Wiggins was attempting in the teens percent of his field goals per game at around 10-to-16 feet — the mid range — but the 2019-20 season has seen the 2014-15 Rookie of the Year shoot 31.3% of his shots from long range.

However, it looks like a personal matter has struck the 24-year-old and Minnesota will be without Wiggins for at least Friday's contest.

The Wolves host the much-maligned Wizards, who are one of the worst teams in the league right now at 2-7.
