Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Tyus Jones has been sidelined since the middle of January with an ankle injury, but he hopes to practice on Thursday, according to Timberwolves writer Julian Andrews.

If all goes well for Jones in practice, he will aim to play in his team's game against the New York Knicks on Friday night. Jones also thinks that once he returns, he will be without any restrictions and will be able to play back-to-backs.

The 22-year-old originally suffered the ankle injury during the Timberwolves' loss to the Philadelphia 76ers back on Jan. 15 and has been out ever since.

On the season overall, Jones is averaging 5.4 points, four assists and 1.3 steals over 20.3 minutes per game while shooting 38 percent from the floor, 29.7 percent from three-point range and 84.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Jones, who played his collegiate basketball at Duke University, was originally selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round (24th pick overall) of the 2015 NBA Draft but was immediately traded to Minnesota.

He played in just 37 games during his rookie campaign, registering 4.2 points and 2.9 assists across 15.5 minutes a night, and the following year, Jones appeared in 60 contests, recording 3.5 points and 2.6 assists through 12.9 minutes per game.

Then, last season, the Burnsville, Mn. native played in all 82 games, making 11 starts. During that time, he posted 5.1 points, 2.8 dimes and 1.2 steals over 17.9 minutes per game while making 45.7 percent of his field-goal attempts, 34.9 percent of his long-distance tries and 87.7 percent of his foul shots.

The Timberwolves currently own a record of 27-30 and have gone just 3-6 over their last nine games.
