The Minnesota Timberwolves' season ended with a disappointing loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Playoffs. The Timberwolves blew multiple leads in the frustrating loss, but perhaps one of the more troubling developments to come out of the series was the performance of guard D'Angelo Russell, who was on the bench during the fourth quarter of the Timberwolves' defeat. Ahead of the offseason, Russell has been tabbed as a player who could be available on the trade market, according to the latest rumors from NBA reporter Marc Stein.

The future of another prominent lefty lead guard in the West is much more uncertain after Minnesota's first-round exit. D'Angelo Russell wound up on the bench at crunch time in the Timberwolves' season-ending Game 6 defeat at home to Memphis and averaged just 12.0 points per game on 33.3% shooting in his second career playoff series. Numerous rival teams expect the Wolves to try to trade Russell this offseason irrespective of Russell’s close relationship with Minnesota star Karl-Anthony Towns. Russell, 26, has one season left on his contract at $31.4 million.

Per Stein, Russell, who averaged 12.0 points per game on 33.3 percent shooting from the field, came up small in just his second career playoff series. It appears that such a down performance has rival teams expecting a Russell trade this upcoming NBA offseason.

However, multiple factors could complicate a Russell deal. For one thing, the Ohio State product is due to be paid $31.4 million next year, a contract that could prove hard to move.

Secondly, there's the matter of Russell's relationship with Timberwolves teammate Karl-Anthony Towns. Towns might not be very pleased to see his good friend dealt.

It will be interesting to see how the Wolves choose to handle the situation with Russell.
