The Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly tried to acquire D'Angelo Russell via a sign-and-trade, but the Brooklyn Nets have no interest in veteran point guard Jeff Teague, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN.

Timberwolves All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns and Russell are very close friends. The two-time All-Star is already meeting with free agents and Russell is believed to be the player Towns wants the most in Minnesota.

The Nets made Russell a restricted free agent on Friday by sending him his qualifying offer. Brooklyn can match any offer sheet should Russell sign one with another team. If the Nets sign Kyrie Irving like everyone expects them to, they can renounce Russell's free agent rights, making him an unrestricted free agent. The Timberwolves, though, don't have the cap space to sign DLo to the max contract he'll be looking for.

Minnesota is up to something. Gersson Rosas, the Wolves' new president of basketball operations, is almost starting from scratch constructing a roster around Karl-Anthony Towns. (Towns is already meeting with free agents, JJ Redick told me this week on his podcast.) And, yes, the clock is ticking even though Towns' mega-extension kicks in just next season. That's the hard reality with stars in the NBA. Sorry.

Minnesota has sniffed around Russell, though the Nets have no interest in Jeff Teague on the other end of any sign and trade, sources say.

Teague will make $19 million next season, the final year of his contract. Even though it's an expiring contract, it doesn't make sense for the Nets to acquire Teague since all signs point toward them landing Irving on June 30.

Russell averaged 21.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists in 2018-19. Timberwolves fans are hoping new president Gersson Rosas is somehow able to land the talented lefty.
