The February 10th NBA Trade Deadline is now just days away, which means the rumor mill is heating up immensely. One player who the Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly shown interest in is Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart.

Per Darren Wolfson of Skor North, the Wolves are definitely considering a move for the veteran. However, they realize the asking price is far too steep:

For the Timberwolves, this honestly wouldn't make any sense. With their current group, they're on track to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2017/18 campaign. Basically, the Celtics are looking to cash in and get a bunch of assets in return for Smart. Jaden McDaniels, Malik Beasley, and a first-rounder is far too much for Minnesota to part ways with.

After all, Smart is averaging just 11.5 points per game to go along with 5.5 dimes and 3.9 rebounds. He's also shooting a dismal 31% from downtown. While Beasley and McDaniels aren't huge pieces for the Timberwolves, the duo are still consistent rotational players who do have a role.

With Patrick Beverley set to hit Free Agency this summer, it's understandable why Minny is looking to explore this trade. Smart brings a similar style of play to the table as Pat Bev. He's a gritty, hard-nosed type of player. But, given how well they're doing at the moment, this doesn't seem logical. Especially, when you're asked to give up so much.
