Released in 2016, Titanfall 2 was popular with both PC and console gamers. Of course, over time the player base of any game will begin to dwindle as newer games are introduced. Titanfall 2 on the other hand seems to be getting a second wind thanks to its relation to the famous battle royale game, Apex Legends.

With the announcement of Valkyrie, Apex Legends‘ latest character, a resurgence has been seen in the multiplayer lobbies of Titanfall. Given how the two games share a universe, it's no surprise then that Titanfall 2 is benefitting from Apex Legends' popularity.

Is Titanfall 2 making a comeback? Yes

As per Steam's data, Titanfall 2 saw a 247.23% increase in its player base over the past month. The player count peaked at 16,958, beating the 10,959 from June 2020. This increase in Titanfall 2‘s player base came at a convenient time after having the last 12 months see the game have more and more players leave.

What helps support the connection between the two is the lore justifying the connection. Together with the gameplay, both aspects of the games help immerse the player in the world of Titanfall. This would mean that old fans of the game would be reminded of Titanfall's lore and narrative while new players are brought in thanks to its connection to Apex Legends.

It remains to be seen whether the increase in the player base will remain stable, or whether this will be more like an event to be expected for each new “connection” made to tie the two titles together. While Titanfall 2 is a great game in itself, the current pace of the gaming industry will only make it hard for the game to stay relevant.
