The Tennessee Titans significantly fortified their defense by landing former Pittsburgh Steelers pass rusher Bud Dupree on Monday evening.

The deal for Dupree comes in at two years for $33 million:

Dupree amassed 39.5 sacks during his six-year tenure in Pittsburgh, which put him 10th all-time on the Steelers' all-time sack leaders–a list which is topped by James Harrison with 80.5.

The 28-year-old Dupree’s best season came in 2019, when he put together a staggering campaign that included 49 solo tackles, 11.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, 17 quarterback hits and 16 tackles for a loss, all of which were career-highs for the former 22nd overall pick.

In 2020, Dupree was off to a terrific start and had already accrued eight sacks on the season through 11 games, but the former Kentucky Wildcat tore his left ACL in a Steelers win over the Ravens in early December. Unfortunately, it an abrupt halt to what was a promising season for him.

Despite only playing in 11 games in 2020, Dupree’s eight sacks would’ve been tops on the Titans by a wide margin–the team’s actual leader last year was edge rusher Harold Landry with 5.5 sacks.

According to Rapoport, Dupree was one of the best edge rushers available. Despite him never making a Pro Bowl in his six seasons, his numbers certainly attest to a ballhawk edge rusher who has a nose for the quarterback in the backfield, which should aid the seemingly ascendant Titans.

After making the AFC Championship game in 2019, the Titans backtracked in 2020 by losing in the first round despite a better regular season record.
