Ryan Tannehill likely has played his final game in a Tennessee Titans uniform, and he knows it. If anything, at least Tannehill was able to lead Tennessee to a win in its 2023 NFL regular season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at home, 28-20.
“It was a fun day for a lot of different reasons,” Tannehill said after the game (via Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official website). “To be able to finish the season out, finish my time out here with a win, it was a lot of fun.”
With nothing on the line for the Titans, who had already been eliminated from playoff contention before Week 18, Tannehill put up a decent performance nonetheless. He went 17/26 for 168 passing yards and two touchdowns with an interception. While it was a meaningless victory for the Titans, they can feel good about breaking the hearts of their AFC South division rivals. (The Jaguars needed to win in Week 18 to book a spot in the playoffs).
Ryan Tanehill closes chapter on Titans career
If that was really IT for Tannehill in Tennessee threads, Titans fans can remember his time with the team for quarterbacking it to a playoff appearance in each of his first three seasons with the franchise. Tannehill had a sort of career revival with the Titans when he was traded by the Miami Dolphins to Tennessee in 2019. In his first season with the Titans, Tannehill posted a career-high 117.5 quarterback rating.
With Tannehill unlikely to run it back with the Titans, Tennessee seems to be ready to hand the QB reins to Will Levis.
