U2 may be returning to the Las Vegas Sphere along with The Wizard of Oz with new film projects.

A new report from Vital Vegas reveals that a 60-minute film that will “feature” U2 is in the works. It also appears that it will be footage from their 40-night residency, U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere.

Warner Bros is working on the The Wizard of Oz project. It is being described as an “offshoot” of the original film. Vital Vegas' report revealed that similar to the U2 project, the Wizard of Oz film will be 60 minutes in length as well.

These may be the second and third films shown at the Sphere. Darren Aronofsky directed a 50-minute documentary exclusively for the venue, Postcard from Earth. The film was released a week after U2 opened the venue with their first concert.

Postcard from Earth was shot on 18K resolution cameras. It is an immersive film that brings viewers across the globe.

The film is still playing at the Sphere, but U2 wrapped their residency on March 2, 2024. Since they concluded their residency, two more bands have taken over the venue. First, Phish played four shows in April 2024.

Dead and Company is currently playing at the Sphere. They are in the midst of their fourth weekend playing at the venue. The band will play a total of 30 shows during their residency.

Beginning on September 29, 2023, U2 played a 40-night residency at the Sphere. They played dates through March 2, 2024.

It was announced during Super Bowl LVII. The band released an ad for the venue and announced that the residency was going to center around the band's 1991 album, Achtung Baby. For the first time ever, the band played the album in full.

This meant that deep cuts such as “So Cruel,” “Tryin' to Throw Your Arms Around the World,” and “Love Is Blindness” were played live for the first time in decades.

The early portion of the Sphere show harkened back to U2's “ZooTV” tour. In the middle of the show, the band would play four songs in a stripped-back acoustic arrangement. They then would go back into Achtung Baby, playing the remaining four songs from the album, and an encore of their greatest hits.

U2's residency was a smashing success. Their 15 2024 shows grossed over $230 million alone. This was the first-ever concert residency for the band and proved to be a win.

Who are U2?

U2 is a Grammy-winning Irish rock band formed in 1976. Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. have been a part of the band since its conception.

As a group, they have released 15 studio albums. Their most recent album, Songs of Surrender, was the third installment in the “Songs of” series. It followed Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience.

Songs of Surrender is made up of 40 re-recorded songs from U2's back catalog. It tied in with Bono's memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story. He embarked on a solo tour, “Stories of Surrender,” to act out stories from his book.
