UFC 269 receives a big boost with the addition of a big title fight. Champion Amanda Nunes is set to defend her bantamweight title against Julianna Pena on December 11 at UFC 269.

The UFC announced the news Monday on Twitter.

The pair were previously slated to meet at UFC 265 but a positive COVID-19 test forced the champion Nunes out of the matchup on Fight Week. The animosity between the pair grew after the fight was postponed when Pena started trash-talking the Champion.

There is no news yet as to whether this will serve as the main or co-main event on the card. Currently, the card only has two other fights announced with Cody Garbrandt taking on Kai Kara-France and Gillian Robertson competing against Priscila Cachoeira.

The bout will serve as Nunes' first bantamweight title defense since December 2019, where she defeated Dutch Kickboxer Germaine de Randamie by unanimous decision to remain champion. Since then she has been defending the Featherweight title defeating Felicia Spencer and Megan Anderson.

Julianna Pena has competed four times since 2017, compiling a record of 2-2. She holds wins over former flyweight champion Nicco Montano and former Olympian Sara McMann.

The bout is considered an interesting test for Nunes as she has mostly faced strikers in her title reign whilst Pena is known for her wrestling. Many are interesting in seeing how the two styles match up.

Amanda Nunes last competed in March and this will be her first time fighting multiple times in a year since 2019. Injuries, the pandemic, and the birth of her child have made things tricky in fighting multiple times a year.
