UFC lightweight Islam Makhachev has poked fun at Conor McGregor over his Charles Oliveirta title fight pitch.

Shortly after Charles Oliveira beat Dustin Poirier to defend his UFC lightweight title, Conor McGregor, who has been generally known for his shocking call-outs, hinted at his desire to take on the Brazilian champion.

“So what date am I fighting Oliveira?,” McGregor wrote on Twitter.

It didn't take long for UFC rising star Islam Makhachev to also share his thoughts on McGregor's unique plea. Responding to the former UFC two-division champ, Makhachev replied, “Your fight is on February 3o.”

Of course, Makhachev was evidently mocking McGregor, suggesting that a title shot against Oliveira is not happening as the month of February only has 28 days, and 29 during leap year.

McGregor is still recovering from the horrible leg injury he sustained at UFC 264. Ahead of his highly-anticipated return, his coach John Kavanagh name-dropped six fighters as possible opponents. Interestingly, Makhachev was one of them.

“The Nate Diaz trilogy is very, very tempting. It’s a fight that gives me nightmares. So, that one is definitely very interesting,” Kavanagh admitted. “But also the Tony Ferguson one. It never happened. It was talked about a lot. Tony still has, I believe, a lot to offer the game. He’s a very unorthodox striker, grappler. I think the build-up would be fun for the fans. So, you know, any of those kind of legacy guys.”

“Dan Hooker’s in there. The Islam (Makhachev) fight would be amazing as well, for obvious reasons. And we have, you know, whoever’s going to win this belt (Charles Oliveira or Dustin Poirier). So, you know, look, any of those names. I’m just excited to see Conor back.”

As it stands, McGregor has been busy bulking up in the gym and is believed to be weighing around 190 pounds at the moment.
