Alistair Overeem is a man that has competed for every promotion known to man in combat sports. That includes the UFC in MMA and K-1 in kickboxing.

The man formerly known as ‘Ubereem' has been paid very generously in his career and is an example of a fighter that gets paid well even without winning a UFC championship.

He recently appeared on Chris Weidman's Podcast where the subject of UFC pay came up. The now kickboxer had an interesting take on the subject.

“… Some promotions don’t pay… so, in that regard, UFC always pay their bills. There’s an argument going about fighter pay. You know, I understand it. But they are paying. Other promotions are not paying.”

Alistair Overeem was paid very well during his time in the UFC. So well in fact that many believe it was a big reason why he was let go from the promotion. He was getting paid too much without winning.

At one point he was making 800k per fight. It was such a big deal that Stipe Miocic, who was champion at the time, spoke out about it because he was being paid less than that despite being UFC champion.

Overeem has experienced the other side too. Kickboxing wasn't exactly good to him. Especially compared to the UFC.

“Well, they [UFC] are absolutely huge, right? – The biggest MMA promotion. But, you know, if I look at the other promotions, okay, K-1 didn’t pay me my prize money. That’s a lot of money. That $400k check, they never wired that.”

Now Alistair Overeem is no longer in the UFC and now competes for Glory kickboxing. He'll be looking to come back soon.
