Earlier in the week, former UFC star Chael Sonnen suggested that Conor McGregor did not suffer an injury and instead is in rehab. It was quite the claim that had Daniel Cormier on his back foot. On Friday, McGregor finally responded to Sonnen.
As it turns out, Conor McGregor really did suffer an injury. He reveals on social media that he suffered a broken pinky toe on his left foot. Additionally, McGregor blasted Sonnen in the post. His toe looks incredibly bruised and it's safe to say, McGregor did not drop out of UFC 303 because he was in rehab, like Chael Sonnen suggested.
“Chael shut your pie hole, hoe. You tap from ground and pound.”

It's unfortunate that Conor McGregor had to back out of UFC 303 as fight fans were looking forward to his bout against Michael Chandler. Hopefully, one day these two can fight as it's felt like years since it was announced they'd face off. But for whatever reason, the bout has yet to happen yet.
Additionally, this is a bad look for Chael Sonnen. When it comes down to it, he essentially made up a story about Conor McGregor being in rehab. So, either Sonnen has bad sources or he just wanted to ruffle McGregor's feathers.

With that said, it's not entirely clear how much time McGregor will miss. Considering it's a broken pinky toe you'd think the former double champ could return later this year. If that's the case then perhaps we'll finally see the Conor McGregor-Michael Chandler matchup by November or December. But of course that is yet to be determined.
Conor McGregor is 2-3 in his last five fights and hasn't been in the cage since 2021. He's still very much considered a superstar. However, he's made so much money outside of the UFC that he's kept busy despite not fighting. Regardless, we should still expect McGregor to return soon as he's bound to face off against Michael Chandler at some point. Hopefully, it happens this year.
UFC fans make fun of Conor McGregor over injury reveal

Many fans believe that McGregor could possibly tape up his toe and still fight. To be fair, we've seen fighters still fight through injury and sometimes it's a lot worse than a broken pinky toe. On the other hand, having an injured toe like that for a stand up fighter can definitely be bothersome. Regardless, UFC fans let Conor McGregor have it.
You called off a fight for a broken pinkie toe? Lol 😆

Hopefully, Conor McGregor can heal quickly enough to fight Michael Chandler later in the year. A broken pinky toe can take anywhere between four to eight weeks to heal. Then McGregor will have to train again and get back to fighting shape. Based on that timeline we could see a McGregor-Chandler bout finally take place around October-December. But we'll have to see how it plays out.
