Cory Sandhagen is stepping in and replacing the injured Ajamain Sterling against Petr Yan at UFC 267. This had been rumored for a few days but it appears the UFC will be moving in this direction.

The news was first reported by ESPN after Dana White informed them of the booking. The fight will be the co-main event of UFC 267 and will be for the interim UFC bantamweight championship.

Aljamain Sterling originally became the champion back in March at UFC 259. Petr Yan hit him with an illegal knee and the contest was ruled a DQ win for Sterling.

The two have been set to rematch all year but an injury to Sterling's neck has pushed back the bout. He is having a difficult time recovering from surgery and it's unclear when he could return.

Cory Sandhagen was the logical choice to step in after Jose Aldo and Rob Font were booked for December and TJ Dillashaw being out until 2022 with an injury.

Cory Sandhagen is currently coming off of a controversial split decision loss to TJ Dillashaw back in July. Before that, he beat Marlon Moraes and Frankie Edgar by highlight-reel knockouts.

The matchup between Sandhagen and Yan is a very exciting one as both fighters look for the finish and always put on exciting showings. It's also one of the rare instances where both fighters are coming off of a loss, controversial or otherwise.

UFC 267 is set to take place on October 30 where Cory Sandhagen vs Petr Yan is expected to be the co-main event.
