Diego Ferreira surprised a lot of people when he tapped early in his fight against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC Vegas 45. The situation was a confusing one as he appeared to tap and was then caught in a submission.
The Brazilian took to Instagram to reveal what actually happened and why he called it. The UFC lightweight was actually injured heading into the fight.
“Hey guys man what a night last night was.. if you guys saw my fight I was fighting my fight me and my coaches plan.. How we planned it, was exactly how everything was going. But 3 weeks a go I hurt my rib in training but didn’t want to pull out from my fight, it wasn’t an option. And yesterday I knew it was a risk, every fighter has been there fighting with injuries and all it took was the right knee and it took my fight away. Thank you for the support I know this is not the end.”
Many fighters have been forced to push through injuries in order to fight and get paid in the UFC. The sport can be brutal and injuries can be revealed very quickly in the fights.
Diego Ferreira now finds himself in a tough spot in the UFC's lightweight division as he now has three losses in a row. It will be interesting to see what happens with him next.
The Fortis MMA UFC fighter will need to heal up and then figure out what is next. There is no word on what the promotion plans to do.
