Mike Perry is one of MMA's great controversial figures. An exciting fighting style with a tendency to get in trouble outside of the cage, it's fair to say Perry isn't a boring personality.
Perry has trained in the past with another controversial figure, Jake Paul, to help him prepare for his upcoming boxing matches. Later on, Paul called out Perry saying he was “light work.”
Mike Perry appeared on The MMA Hour and admitted that he “regrets” the beef with Paul. He admits he focused on the wrong thing when Paul called him out.
“I feel I honestly didn’t handle it right,” Perry said. “Like when Jake posted a video of me saying that we had worked together, even if he was talking trash, or having me talk trash on myself, he was putting me out there on a platform that I didn’t have necessarily.”
Perry realized that Paul talking about him created an opportunity for more people to know about him. Something he wishes he had taken advantage of.
Article Continues BelowPerry also mentioned he had a run-in with Paul and J'Leon Love at a club. The meeting created a rift between Perry and Love.
“I had seen Jake and his boy J’Leon Love in the club later that week,” Perry said. “We were at Live, and I walked by, and somebody grabbed me, and it was them. And I was talking to them for a second and me and Jay Leon started poking each other in the nose, and then all these people came over and were like, ‘No, no,’ and were separating us. And I was like, ‘It’s all good, we’re cool.’
Things didn't stop there as Love later tweeted about the run-in. The seeds for a potential fight were planted right then and there.
“Jay Leon tweeted about it, said it was a good conversation, but he beat my ass. Well, let’s run it, bro.”
