Alex Volkanovski finds himself in a strange spot after beating The Korean Zombie at UFC 273. The Australian champion has cleared out the top of his division and could find himself an opportunity to take a fun fight.

UFC 274 is set to have a lightweight title fight between current champion Charles Oliveira and former interim champion Justin Gaethje. Alex Volkanovski is taking a close look at the fight and is hoping to get involved.

“The lightweight title. The timing works well because I want to be active this year; they are fighting in a month, the winner of that title fight [let’s] fight in August or something like that,” Volkanovski told TMZ.

The double champion talk started after his win over The Korean Zombie and it seems like there is interest in him fighting for the second belt. The UFC's featherweight division is not backed up and the fight could potentially make sense.

Moving up is something Alex Volkanovski has talked about in the past but the opportunity was never right for it to happen. After a few UFC title defenses, it could make sense for him to move up to challenge the next lightweight champion.

“It’s perfect. It sounds like a great idea to me…It’s a goal that I’m looking for, the double champ status. I haven’t really been pushing for it, I know I’ve mentioned it, but I’ve always mentioned it as in the near future. It is only now that I’m mentioning it as in its deserving because of the three title defenses. Look at the guys who I’ve beat, and look what I’m doing to these guys as well. Now I’m asking for this type of stuff.”

UFC champion Volkanovski continued, “I’m not doing this because – I’m not like a lot of these guys that have one title fight and are asking for double champ status. It took me three title defenses for me to say I earned this now. I think I earned it, and people are talking about it, so I think they are taking it seriously too.”
