Fabricio Werdum was supposed to return to PFL for another season in the heavyweight division. The former UFC fighter will not be coming back for his second season and it appears he may not be returning to MMA at all.
Fabricio Werdum recently did an interview with AG Fight where the UFC legend admitted it was difficult to stay committed to MMA. The Brazilian spoke about retirement but wasn't ready to make it official.
“It’s a bit complicated to say that to a fighter after 24 years of fighting,” Werdum said (H/T MMAFighting.com). “Even my wife keeps telling me to say I’m retired, that I’m done. I tell her I won’t say it.”
Fabricio Werdum lives in Brazil currently. He was living in California during his UFC career and it's made training very difficult for him. Coming back to the United States for training camps has become very tricky.
“Talking about MMA, I think it’s hard for me to come back because it’s more dedication, staying two, three months in the United States, and I’m living in Brazil for a year and three months now,” Werdum said. “If there’s a boxing match, I’d do it. … To sum it up: boxing, yes. MMA, no. It would need to be an out-of-this-world offer to make me stop doing what I’ve been doing right now.”
Coming back to MMA is no longer what interests the former UFC fighter. Money is what can make Fabricio Werdum return and he believes that would come from boxing rather than MMA.
