UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is likely to be slated for another rematch for his next title defense fight.

After a failed run in the UFC light heavyweight division, Israel Adesansya quickly bounced back to his winning ways and beat Marvin Vettori in their second meeting.

With his next title fight already being worked on, Adesanya’s coach Eugene Bareman hinted that it is most likely to be another rematch. Only this time, it will be against top UFC middleweight contender Derek Brunson.

“[Derek] Brunson, but it might be Rob [Whittaker], but I don’t know,” Bareman recently told Submission Radio of Adesanya’s next fight. “Brunson’s at five wins since he’s fought Israel and Robert’s at three. Brunson also had [Darren] Till, [Kevin] Holland, [Edmen] Shahbazyan, and a couple more. Yeah, so Till they have in common, you’ve got Shahbazyan, another up-and-comer, and Holland. Those three names are just as big as the ones that Robert’s beat, plus Brunson’s got [Elias] Theodorou and [Ian] Heinisch.”

“That’s just my logic, I’m like, [Brunson] he seems to have put his hand up the highest, and looks like he’s going to be next,” the coach explained.

Following Brunson’s submission win over Darren Till earlier this month, he already made it clear to the UFC that a title shot against Adesanya is what he is looking forward to in his next fight.

“I was just thinking how bad I want that [Adesanya] fight, how I know I can get the job done,” Brunson told MMA Junkie. “[To] Shock everybody, surprise everybody. I’m so good at going in somebody’s backyard and just silencing the crowd. I’m not an A-hole with it, but I’m going to go enjoy the moment.”
