Jorge Masvidal appears to have his future with the UFC and Dana White set as his team has announced the signing of a new contract. Masvidal is currently set to headline UFC 272 against Colby Covington on Saturday.
Jorge Masvidal made the announcement on his Instagram. The UFC welterweight star has reportedly inked a very lucrative deal with the organization.
“Thank you @ufc @danawhite Hunter Cambell and my team @firstroundmgmt @malkikawa @abrahamkawa for making sure my kids will never go hungry again #blessed”
The deal is reportedly one of the most lucrative in the UFC and it now lands Jorge Masvidal in the top-3 highest-paid athletes in the organization. There is only speculation on who the other higher-paid athletes are and that includes Conor McGregor and Israel Adesanya.
“His contract pays him like a champion and then some,” Kawa, who represents Masvidal along with his brother Abe Kawa, told ESPN. “And the length of time will be that he will finish his career in the UFC.”
Jorge Masvidal reacted to the news in trademark fashion. He celebrated the extra attention ahead of UFC 272 on Saturday.
“My kids' kids are gonna be good for a long time,” Masvidal said of his new contract. “So you sell that pay-per-view, boy.”
The future was not always this clear for Jorge Masvidal with the UFC. Almost two years ago, he was talking about how unhappy he was with his current deal and wanted Dana White to pay him better.
Jorge Masvidal competes at UFC 272 on Saturday against his heated rival, Colby Covington. His future will be with the UFC as his manager confirms that he will finish his career with the organization.
