Tom Brady seems to be relishing retirement. Instead of poring over game plans and watching hours of extra film while trying to squeeze some extra rest in ahead of his team's season-opener, the New England Patriots legend spent Friday night catching some US Open tennis in New York City.

The one problem? Brady missed the match he wanted to see most, Novak Djokovic's semifinal victory over American upstart Ben Shelton, because his sons needed to finish school in Miami before the family winged its way to Arthur Ashe Stadium. At least the GOATs got the chance to exchange pleasantries after the match, though.

Djokovic ended Shelton's dream run to the final four of the US Open in straight sets. His unseeded American challenger refused to go down easy despite losing the first two sets, resulting in a third-set tiebreaker Djokovic took 7-4. The 36-year-old then commemorated the victory by mimicking Shelton's viral ‘hang up the phone' celebration—a cheeky display of competitiveness Brady no doubt appreciated.

“I thought it was very original, and I copied him,” Djokovic said after the match. “I stole his celebration.”

Djokovic moves onto face third-seeded Daniil Medvedev in the final, the same tournament-ending matchup from two years ago. Medevev beat the sport's all-time Grand Slam leader 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in 2021, denying Djokovic his fourth US Open championship.

Djokovic and Medvedev are set to face off at 1:00 p.m. (PT) on Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where Brady—now that his football career is finished and his kids are out of school for the weekend—will surely be in attendance.
