San Francisco, CA – The 2019-20 season was a massive disappointment for the Golden State Warriors. But a couple of good things happened that season. The Warriors drafted Jordan Poole, and they traded D’Angelo Russell for Andrew Wiggins. This was a trade Wiggins welcomed because he had high expectations for the team, although they finished that season 15-50.
Stephen Curry played in five games, Draymond Green played 43, and Klay Thompson was out the entire season. Wiggins understood why the team was so bad, but he knew they would be back on top.
“Since I've been in the NBA when you think about Golden State, all you think about is winning,” Wiggins told ClutchPoints. “That's how it's been since I've been in the league. This organization has always been a winner. When I got here, I didn't think anything was going to change. I was excited to play with Steph, Klay, and Draymond and to get coached by Steve. So everything I expected is coming true.”
It took two seasons for Wiggins to get on the court with Curry, Thompson, and Green. But now that it's happening, Wiggins and the Warriors are having a great year. He made his first All-Star appearance, and the Warriors are back in the Conference Finals for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
Wiggins’ name came up in trade rumors often, and fans didn't always appreciate him. Now that the team is almost whole, his value to the team is on full display. Everything the team needs from him, he does, and everyone is realizing what he was brought to Golden State to do.
Now he's one of the most important members of the team, and they need him to win an NBA championship. This is everything Wiggins expected when he was traded here, and he's excited to see what happens next.
