David West retired last year after helping the Golden State Warriors win two straight titles. He embraced a reserve role for a chance to win rings before calling it a career. However, he admitted that if the Cavaliers were able to beat them last year, he would still be playing this season.

In an interview with New York Times' Scott Cacciola, West admitted that he's happy with his decision to retire, although it wouldn't have been the case had they lost to the Cavs in the Finals. He added that it wasn't easy for him to walk away from the NBA, but it was a necessary decision for him to make.

“I just needed a break from the game.”

Since retiring, West focused on his family, particularly with his newborn child. However, he said that he'd like to return to the NBA, not as a player, but maybe as a coach or as an executive. He said he'd be able to use everything that he learned from coach Steve Kerr during his time with the Warriors.

It seems that West is pretty contented with his decision to leave the NBA. Although had he chosen to stay, he would've been part of the Warriors' historic run in the playoffs. Golden State has reached the Finals for the fifth straight year and is gunning for a third straight championship.

But for the veteran forward, spending 15 years in the league is enough. He accomplished everything that he wanted as a player, and now he's trying to fulfill his duties as a husband and as a father before exploring other opportunities in the land of the NBA.
