Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins is open to re-signing with the organization, according to Mark Medina of the San Jose Mercury News.

“I’m open,” Cousins said. “We’ll see what happens.”

Cousins was not expected to consider the Warriors after taking a deep discount to join them last offseason, signing a one-year, $5.3 million deal for the mid-level exception after he failed to get offers from teams around the league following a torn Achilles injury.

Due to salary-cap rules, the Warriors can only pay him about $6.3 million, less than a 20% raise from what he made this past 2018-19 season.

Cousins only played in 30 regular season games upon recovering from his injury, returning to the court nearly a full calendar year after he first sustained the injury.

“It was a weird summer last summer. So you never know how things work out,” said Cousins. “I’m open and I’ll make the best decision for myself and my family. We’ll see which way the wind blows.”

“A lot of trials and tribulations. A lot of things to overcome. Through all of that, you’ve learned a lot,” Cousins said. “I appreciate this season. It was incredible. I experienced a lot of things. I’ve grown as a player. I’ve grown as a person. I’m grateful for every moment that happened throughout this season?

Cousins has been a good fit in the Warriors' locker room, though his skill set has been tough to implement with this ball-movement roster. Yet the big man has taken plenty of lessons through this shortened season, along with his first playoff and NBA Finals experience.

“I’m a team guy. I can sacrifice and do what’s best for the team. I control the things I can control. Ill be ready when my name is called upon,” Cousins said. “This is what I’ve always wanted. I’m grateful to be able to say I got to be in this moment. It was a lot of fun. This atmosphere is incredible. I look forward to being in it again whatever that may be. I really enjoyed it.”
