With the Golden State Warriors down three and about five seconds left on the game clock, Jordan Poole launched one from just beyond half-court. The shot puzzled many and evoked words of confusion from the broadcast team calling the game.

Check out the polarizing play from the Warriors point guard below:

One player who didn't think it was as egregious a mistake as it appeared was Draymond Green. The Warriors veteran was seen in the comments section after Poole's shot was classified as a “blooper”. He clearly didn't agree with the label.

“It’s not a blooper,” said Draymond Green on the ClutchPoints Instagram post of the said play. “It was actually the smart play. They were about to foul him. We were out of timeouts. Only those that understand basketball on a real level will understand his shot.”

Jordan Poole's decision to shoot clearly wasn't just a matter of committing a mental error. The Suns looked ready to trap him at the half-court line and likely foul him to prevent any attempt at a game-tying three-pointer. Poole knew this and let it fly instead, but it unfortunately backfired on the Warriors.

The play was reminiscent of Draymond Green's own misguided attempt at an untimely heave from last season. The Warriors were down three with several ticks left on the game clock. Anticipating a foul, Draymond Green launched one from near half-court much to the chagrin of Warriors fans watching at home.

It's hard to put any blame on Jordan Poole for losing that game, though. He poured in a career-high 38 points and looked every bit like Stephen Curry for most of the night. He was efficiency personified from an outside scoring threat, connecting on 11-for-22 from the field and draining seven of his 15 attempts from distance. He also tallied nine rebounds and seven assists while going 9-for-10 from the free throw line.

If anybody deserved credit for Golden State even being in the game at all at that point against the NBA-best Suns, it was Poole. After the game, Draymond Green doubled down on what Jordan Poole has meant to the Warriors, which isn't quantified in just one game or any solitary play.

“I thought he has been incredible, not just tonight but overall,” Draymond Green told ClutchPoints' Warriors reporter Mark Haynes.

“Nine rebounds, that was huge,” Green continued. “One of them down the stretch he came in and got the rebound and D. Book (Devin Booker) fouled him. That is the growth that you want to see. Those are the things that win games, which ultimately win playoff series, which ultimately win championships.”

The Golden State Warriors are still rocking with the championship core that served as the foundation for their three championships in the last decade. But if they're going to be able to come out on top and make the NBA Finals, which could pass through the very same Phoenix Suns, Jordan Poole needs to be just as dominant alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
