JaVale McGee and Nick Young are kindred spirits. Both are peripheral components on a championship contender’s roster and on their own, are favorites to be featured on Shaqtin’ a Fool. But there’s a glaring difference between the two aside from their respective frames. McGee is an NBA champion. Young is not.

McGee even has the hardware to flaunt for it, as he was one of the recipients Tuesday night of shiny new championship rings presented to members of the Warriors team that won the NBA title last June. The ceremony took place before the Warriors started their title defense with a game against the Houston Rockets, and the first thing McGee did after receiving the ring was classic JaVale. Take it away Mr. Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

The Warriors signed McGee last season to a one-year contract and it obviously bore fruit for the big man, who signed another one-year deal with Golden State over the offseason. Young, meanwhile, followed in the footsteps of McGee, hoping he could hitchhike his way to a title, by inking a one-year contract with the defending champions last July.

Whatever happens, JaVale McGee will come out on top laughing. Another title this season for the Warriors would mean he’ll get two rings—still one more than what Young has on his fingers.
