The Golden State Warriors have given center DeMarcus Cousins a G-League assignment, allowing him to take practice with the Santa Cruz Warriors and even some minutes on the floor, as he works his way back from a left Achilles injury sustained in February, per an official team report.

Cousins has taken part on five-on-five drills with the team but this would be his first time actually taking on clear contact and working himself into game shape before joining the team later in December.

The Warriors had noted a potential return after Christmas could be in the works for their big man acquisition, but the team is expected to be utmost careful bringing him back from a long-term injury of this caliber — likely managing his minutes and appearances in back-to-backs.

Golden State will need to slowly adhere him to this team in hopes to get a fine-tuned result before the start of the postseason, where he will play an integral part of a fifth consecutive push for the NBA Finals.

The Warriors have seen their share of struggles early on due to a slew of injuries, but yet head into Monday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves with the best record in the Western Conference at 18-9 after winning three straight games, including a key rematch against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday.

Cousins' return will give the Warriors a much-needed stable presence on the block, as former starter Damian Jones went down with a pectoral injury and is likely to miss the remainder of the season with it.
