The Golden State Warriors wants something more from 22-year-old big man Kevon Looney.

Ever since center Damian Jones suffered a season-ending abdominal injury, Kevon Looney has had the opportunity to start every game at center for Golden State. Until DeMarcus Cousins comes back, Looney has the chance to showcase what he can do with four other superstar players on the court.

However, Warriors coach Steve Kerr wants Looney to be his own star and become more involved offensively. In fact, Kerr went as far as to saying he wants to see the young center take more shots from deep.

“He's got a lot more game than people know of, and we see it in practice,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said, via NBC Sports. Kevon is such a conscientious player that he's normally deferring to the stars. But we're gonna ask him to do more. We think he can make 3s. He took a corner 3 last night that didn't go in, but it was a good shot and one he made in practice. I think if he continues to play and gain confidence, I think you're gonna see Kevon starting to show more offense.”

Looney is averaging 6.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 61.9 percent from the field. These numbers are all career highs for the Warriors big.

Looney is 4-of-21 from 3-point territory on his career and hasn't hit from deep once this season. Coach Kerr has high expectations for Looney and fully trusts that he will begin to develop a shot from beyond the arc.

For the Warriors offense to work fluidly, Looney needs to be able to stretch the floor consistently. The Warriors are 21-11 and are third in the NBA's Western Conference.
