Despite going down with a major ACL tear in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors never second-guessed on re-signing their free-agency bound All-Star guard Klay Thompson.

Via NBC Sports, team owner Joe Lacob spoke about the matter with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole on “The Warriors Insider Podcast.” For him, it was an absolute no-brainer to bring back Thompson for the long haul, despite the uncertainty that his injury beholds.

“There was no doubt in my mind, whatsoever (they would resign Thompson). I, and we, want Klay to be here for a long time. He’s one of my favorite players in the world…

“ACLs … not good, ok we know that. But stuff happens and that’s an injury that now people know how to manage. Plenty of people have come back from ACLs and done pretty well. Honestly, it didn’t even remotely cross my mind.”

Despite looking at a lengthy recovery period, the Warriors still gave Klay Thompson a well-deserved five-year, $190-million max contract extension. Thompson is projected to be out until at least after the All-Star break, but there is no definite timeline on he'll be able to return.

Still, Thompson remains hopeful that he'll eventually see the court at some point next season and return just in time for a Warriors playoff run.

With Thompson out of commission for majority of the season and Kevin Durant bolting the Bay Area for Brooklyn, many have written off the once untouchable Warriors as championship contenders.

However, it's still hard to count out a team that still has Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and newly-acquired All-Star guard D'Angelo Russell. Thompson's eventual return would only make them scarier.
