There's no doubt that the Golden State Warriors see Jordan Poole as an integral part of their squad not only in the immediate future but for the years to come as well. The 23-year-old had a tremendous campaign last season, emerging as a crucial part of the rotation during what turned out to be a memorable title run for the Dubs.

Poole, however, is now entering the final year of his contract. This means that the Dubs will need to start negotiating a new deal for the 6-foot-4 shooting guard — one that will reward him much more handsomely than the $3.9 million he is owed next term.

At this point, it wouldn't be insane to consider the possibility of a max extension for Poole. After all, he has shown the potential to be a superstar for Golden State in the looming post-Stephen Curry era. Right now, though, the argument is that Jordan Poole has not done enough to warrant such a big-money deal:

‘”What's the upside in locking him in now?'” one team cap strategist told Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. ‘”He's not Luka Doncic or Donovan Mitchell, who've proven they can carry a team. He's close. If he does it again, you pay him. But prior to this year he was a borderline rotation player.'”

The main advantage for the Warriors here is that Poole is going to be a restricted free agent next summer. This puts them in a great position to see what Poole does this coming season. If he busts out again, then he would have proven that he deserves that max deal. However, if the former Michigan standout proves to be a key rotation player, then the Dubs can opt to pay him accordingly.
