Prior to the 2017-18 NBA season, it was almost a foregone conclusion that this year's NBA Finals would feature yet another matchup between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers. Although it may have been expected, it did not make it any easier for NBA fans to come to grips with.

One person who is not complaining about the showdown is small forward Kevin Durant. According to Ben Axelrod of WKYC, Durant thinks it is great for the league:

Kevin Durant asked on if he thinks it's a good thing for the NBA to have the same two teams in the Finals every year: “I think it's great”

It goes without saying that there are a number of fans who would refute his comments. The Warriors and Cavs are getting ready for their fourth consecutive NBA Finals showdown. As a result, it is being touted as one of the greatest rivalries in recent history.

Of course, two teams meeting in the championship every year is not totally unprecedented. Such a matchup always seems to happen with every decade. Unfortunately, this rivalry lacks a lot of the intrigue that made the other ones great. For starters, it is shaping up to be a bit one-sided in Golden State's favor. Given the performance of both teams thus far, there is little indication that Cleveland will be able to even the count in these Finals.

That said, perhaps Durant was speaking from a personal point of view. Given his success in last year's series, it is no surprise that he is excited to match up with Cleveland once again.
