Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant does not exactly have the best of relationships with the mainstream media.

However, despite his rather tumultuous connection with the press, the former MVP is still adamant that the media need him more than he needs them.

“They need me,” Durant recently told Logan Murdock of NBC Sports Bay Area. “If I wasn’t a free agent, none of this s–t would go on, right? None of this speculation about who I am, what’s wrong with my mental, why I’m miserable, why I ain’t happy with life. Nothing.”

Durant appears to be in a perpetually pissed off mood every time he addresses the media, and this instance is certainly no exception.

It is obvious that the 30-year-old has had it with all the criticism from the press, and it seems that at this point, the relationship has become beyond repair.

In truth, though, Durant does make a bit of a point here. He is definitely one of the biggest stars in the NBA today, and in reality, the media — and in turn, the people — just can't get enough of him. The microscope on his life — both within and outside the confines of the basketball court — is magnified to the highest level.

Surely, there will be more than enough news stories about other NBA stars if Durant weren't around, but honestly, the mere fact that he speaks with so much negativity towards the media makes for juicier news bits that are simply too interesting to ignore.
