Once a Longhorn, always a Longhorn.

Before he came to the NBA, Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant was a superstar in the making in Austin, playing one spectacular season for the Texas Longhorns way back in the 2006-07 NCAA season in which he earned the John R. Wooden Award and the Naismith College Player of the Year.

Together with D.J. Augustin, Durant took the Longhorns to the Big Dance as a No. 4 seed before getting eliminated in the second round of the 2007 National Tournament.

Ten years later, Kevin Durant is still thinking of his alma mater, which you could clearly tell from the cool assortment of Nike gear the one-time NBA MVP sent Texas’ football team just ahead of the program’s Big 12-SEC affair with the Missouri Tigers in the Academy Sports and Outdoors Texas Bowl happening this Wednesday.

It’s a generous move on the part of the Warriors superstar, who went out of his way to give the Longhorns something to feel good about heading into their showdown with the Tigers.

If Kevin Durant was willing to go down this road to support the Longhorns’ football team, just imagine the stuff he’ll send the school’s basketball team if it, say, won the Big Ten regular-season title.

Hook ‘em (Horns) up, Kevin.
