Klay Thompson has been ruled out for a couple of weeks with a fractured right thumb, but the predicted timeline is not one he feels loyal to.

“I think I can be back sooner,” Thompson said, according to Melissa Rohlin of the San Jose Mercury News. “But we’ll see how my recovery goes. I have faith that I’ll be back sooner than a couple of weeks.”

Thompson first injured himself reaching into a driving Jeff Teague during Sunday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, visibly seen holding his right thumb through the next few possessions.

The marksman went 8-of-22 from the field and played a whopping 40 minutes in the game under the impression it was just a sprain.

“I thought it was just a bad sprain,” he said. “Luckily it wasn’t worse. It hurt. But I’m not going to leave the game with only eight or nine guys. I’m not going to leave them out there on an island like that. So I just played through it.”

The Golden State Warriors were already without Stephen Curry, as well as Andre Iguodala, David West, and Jordan Bell — limiting their firepower against a potent Timberwolves team.

Thompson was seen taking left-handed jumpers in practice, perhaps in ways that would have the likes of Ben Simmons saying “are you kidding me?” — showing the same smooth release with his left as he does with his dominant right.

“It sucks,” Thompson said, explaining his frustration of being in the shelf for the time being. “I like waking up every morning knowing I have a game that night. It’s a lot of fun.”

Thompson and backcourt mate Curry are expected to be re-evaluated on Thursday, which could bring some good news if one or the other prove to be making improvements in their recovery.
